Laurie studied Swedish-Esalen Massage at the Heartwood Institute in Garberville, California (1995). Her continuing Massage Therapy education includes Deep Tissue Therapy, Reiki, Visceral Massage, Therapeutic Touch, Thai Massage, Myoskeletal Alignment, and Resonance Release Work® (effectively releasing the deeper tissues by firmly holding several related points simultaneously, allowing the muscles to release without creating undo resistance).  Laurie approaches her work on an individual basis, treating each client with the type of bodywork she feels will best alleviate his or her tension and pain, thus allowing the client to experience physical healing, relaxation, energetic balance and a renewed sense of well-being.
After practicing mostly Iyengar and other Hatha Yoga forms for over ten years, she completed her 200-hour training with Shambhava Yoga at the Konalani Ashram above Kona, Hawaii, where she became interested in Yoga Therapy.  In 2009, she completed her 500-hour Yoga Therapy training at Purusha Yoga in San Francisco, where she also was certified in mat Pilates.   In 2012, she and her husband moved to Hawaii Island where she enjoys organic gardening, hiking, swimming, Hula, playing the clarinet, practicing Yoga and Tai Chi, in addition to sharing her yoga classes and healing bodywork with her clients. She enjoys visiting the Bay Area to see clients, friends, and family.

Wild Thing–Open Your Heart and Let it Sing!

Not all asanas (poses) are for all bodies–consult your doctor before attempting any of these asanas.  Any loss/liability/damage incurred by performing any of the asanas or following the advice or instructions shown on this website is expressly disclaimed.

Know your body– explore its myriad possibilities and avoid aggravating its limitations.

Never force your body into a pose–gently guide it with comfort, ease and grace.

Be with your breath throughout your entire practice–allow the flow of your breath to dictate the flow of your practice; not the reverse.

Find a teacher who encourages you to practice at your own pace and who offers modifications to suit your particular needs–work one-on-one with an instructor who you feel confident will instruct you on proper techniques and alignment principles before joining a large class of students with various levels of expertise.  Most often, he/she will not be able to observe and attend to each student’s needs for modifications and hands-on adjustments.

Yoga Therapy

I take a massage each week. This isn’t an indulgence, it’s an investment in your full creative expression/productivity/passion and sustained good health.

Massage therapy has been shown to relieve depression, especially in people who have chronic fatigue syndrome; other studies also suggest benefit for other populations.

Massage Therapy

I always think I look better after a yoga class. It’s the same as a massage. We look so amazing after a massage because we’re relaxed.

I love a massage. I’d go every day if I could. I don’t need to be wrapped in herbs like a salmon fillet, but I do love a massage.
